Brighton CEO Paul Barber Issues Another Message To Moises Caicedo On Transfer Updates
Brighton get their Premier League campaign underway on Saturday afternoon as they welcome newly-promoted Luton Town to the American Express Stadium (3pm kick-off)
Brighton chief executive Paul Barber says he’s looking forward to Moises Caicedo starting the season with Albion this weekend.
The Seagulls kick off their Premier League campaign on Saturday as they welcome newly-promoted Luton Town to the American Express Stadium.
Caicedo has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer but so far the Blues have not been able to meet the £100million valuation put on the Ecuadorian’s shoulders by Brighton.
Indeed, Chelsea have already seen three bids rejected for Caicedo, the latest thought to be have been close to the £80million mark.
The midfielder was absent from Brighton’s squad on Sunday as they finished their pre-season with a 1-1 draw at home against Rayo Vallecano, though this was due to an injury picked up in training rather than a hint about his future.
“Moises had a slight hamstring injury late in training and was pulled out for that reason,” Barber said ahead of the game.
“With a Premier League season just a week away it makes no sense to risk him today. We’re looking forward to Moises starting the season with us, he’s a Brighton player under a long-term contract.
“He’s probably one of the most exciting young midfield players in the world at the moment and we’re delighted to have him.”
He also confirmed Albion are still looking to further strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes on September 1.
“We’ve always got our eyes on improving the squad wherever we can, we’re in a good position, we’ve got a good squad, we’re looking forward to the season.
“All the players are fit and well, with the exception of Moises. We’re looking forward to today’s friendly and then preparing for Luton’s visit next week.”
Barber also wished departing goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez well, following his transfer to Chelsea, which was confirmed on Saturday.
“Rob is a relatively young goalkeeper that wants to play first-team football and wants to challenge to start in a first-team and he believes that Chelsea will give him that opportunity.
“After nearly a decade here we wish him the best. He’s been very popular around the club and we wish him well for the future.”
