‘Interesting’: ‘Sublime’ midfielder could join Tottenham after being dropped on Saturday
Ange Postecoglou has had a history of raiding clubs and leagues he knows a lot about.
During his time at Celtic, his additions from the J-League were inspired, and now that he’s come to Spurs, many expected one or two Celtic players to head to north London.
However, as of yet, that hasn’t happened. We haven’t seen any movement from Glasgow to north London, but that could change soon.
Indeed, speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing the idea of Reo Hatate swapping Celtic for Tottenham.
Hatate has been one of Celtic’s best players in recent times, but he was dropped from the squad on Saturday, and according to Bailey, the ‘sublime’ midfielder could end up at Tottenham.
Hatate to Spurs
Bailey shared what he knows about the midfielder.
“Interesting, did you notice that Reo Hatate was dropped by Brendan Rodgers this weekend? Much to the chagrin of a lot of Celtic fans, he’s recognised as one of the best midfielders in Scotland, and he didn’t start at the weekend, it still wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up at Tottenham,” Bailey said.
Would make sense
Sometimes a transfer just makes sense, and, in all honesty, this is one of those deals.
Hatate is a notable Postecoglou favourite, and if he is out of favour at Celtic, a move to Spurs would be ideal.
Of course, the step-up between Scottish and English football can be sizeable, but even as a depth option at Spurs, Hatate could be worth a punt.
As Bailey says, Hatate was seen as one of the best midfielders in Scotland under Postecoglou, and he could well be a star at Spurs under the Australian too.
