Huddersfield Town key players likely to depart from club before transfer deadline day

Nine Huddersfield Town players who might benefit from loan moves before transfer deadline day
The Terriers are looking to add some extra quality to their starting line-up but they have enough numbers that they can afford to move a few out, for varying reasons
Loick Ayina – The centre-back largely made a good account of himself after starting against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, but it’s hard to really imagine a situation in which he gets many more minutes than that. After all, he has Michal Helik, Matty Pearson, Tom Edwards, Yuta Nakayama, Josh Ruffels, and (once fit) Tom Lees and Ollie Turton all ahead of him in the pecking order if Town played a back three; perhaps even Rarmani Edmonds-Green and Jonathan Hogg too. Ayina shone at Dundee United last season and a similar move could be best for him.

Brodie Spencer – The right-back is definitely ready for senior football, and indeed we would go so far as to say it’s the only thing he really needs to become a regular starter for Huddersfield Town: the fundamentals are all there in his game, he just needs some experience to get his moments of naivety out of his game. He’s unlikely to get that at Town this season though, with Edwards in that position currently, Turton due back around the turn of the new year, and Pearson and Edmonds-Green the preferred cover.

Scott High – Neil Warnock has been quite open about wanting another midfielder in the transfer market, and High is yet to be involved in a Championship matchday squad and only made it off the bench even in the Carabao Cup. So…

Connor Mahoney – The winger’s move to the John Smith’s Stadium hasn’t really worked out, to say the least. A loan would be as good as a permanent deal with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.
Aaron Rowe – Has been in B team action recently but doesn’t appear to be close to Warnock’s thoughts for the first team. His move to Stockport last season didn’t give him many minutes, but finding him a similar move again might be beneficial for Rowe.
Kian Harratt, Kyle Hudlin or Kieran Phillips – This Town ain’t big enough for the three of them as it is, and if another out-and-out striker is found in the transfer market then you might be able to add another to the list. All of them can do a job for the first team; it’s just a question of whether there’s enough chances to go around or whether someone would be better off heading out again this season.

Jordan Rhodes – Much like Mahoney, a loan would effectively fulfil the same purpose as a free transfer for the striker, who looked like Warnock’s fourth or fifth choice even before Delano Burgzorg’s arrival.
