Coventry City Boss Provides Transfer Window Update
Coventry City manager Mark Robins has confirmed that the Sky Blues are looking to land two more players before the transfer window closes, according to his pre-match interview on the club’s website.
The Championship side have had a busy summer, adding ten new players to their ranks as well as selling duo Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer, but it appears that the club are not finished just yet.
Coventry’s summer so far
The Sky Blues offloaded 15 players following their play-off final defeat to Luton, as well as selling Viktor Gyokeres (£20.5 million) and Gustavo Hamer (£15 million). However, in return, they have signed ten new players with eight of them coming in permanent deals.
Amongst their incomings were club-record signing and USA international Haji Wright, Everton striker Ellis Simms, Burnley defender Bobby Thomas and Dutch U21’s international Milan Van Ewijk.
A promising start
The Skyblues have taken four points from their opening three matches but have shown a lot of enthusiasm in their performances so far. They began with a narrow 2-1 loss to Leicester City, despite Kyle McFadzean’s opener.
Mark Robins’ men bounced back with a thumping 3-0 win against Middlesbrough, including a brace from Matt Godden, before being held to a 1-1 draw in a tough match against Swansea City. The Sky Blues host rivals Sunderland this weekend.
What’s been said?
According to manager Mark Robins, the Sky Blues aren’t yet finished in the summer window with work still to do before the transfer window closes. In his pre-match interview, he stated…
“We’re still trying to do some things and hopefully we can have some more news before the window shuts and we just inch our way along.
“It’s been a different window again, it has been a different time, but exciting, nonetheless. it was slow to start with, we worked all the way through the summer to try and get things over the line, but it just didn’t work that way.
“The fact that that we’ve got the players in that we’ve got, I’m delighted with, and we just got to add one or two more in terms of number and then once we get Jamie Allen and Callum O’Hare back and potentially Fabio Tavares coming back the squad looks a lot healthier in number.”
As a Sky Blues fan, I think Mark Robins’ comments are very fair and that two players are definitely required before the window closes. After Gustavo Hamer’s departure, Coventry are in need of another midfielder, even despite the arrival of Yasin Ayari.
Similarly, I believe another left-sided defender is also required by the Championship side to compete with the likes of Luis Binks and Joel Latibeaudiere.
