Brentford rival Tottenham move for Brennan Johnson with late £40 million club-record offer
Spurs are still thought to be favourites for Wales forward’s signature but Thomas Frank’s side have upped their offer for priority target
Brentford are making a late push for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson after submitting a club record £40 million offer.
Johnson is set to move this week, with Tottenham Hotspur also in talks to sign the Wales international, but Brentford have ramped up their long-standing interest with a third bid of this transfer window.
Brentford’s pursuit of the 22-year-old stretches back almost two years, with the club having at least three offers rejected when Forest were operating in the Championship.
Bids of £30 million and £35 million this summer were both turned down, but the west London club have now returned with an improved offer which is edging closer to Forest’s valuation.
Brentford are preparing for a future without their talismanic striker Ivan Toney, who has now switched agents, and regard Johnson as a priority signing in Thomas Frank’s plans.
Tottenham are still considered favourites to sign Johnson, with club chairman Daniel Levy now in talks with Forest to try to conclude a deal.
Castagne heads to the Cottage
Fulham are poised to sign Leicester City defender Timothy Castagne in a £9 million deal.
Castagne, the Belgium international, is having a medical at Fulham’s training ground on Monday ahead of a permanent move.
Fulham head coach Marco Silva likes Castagne’s versatility and the transfer should be wrapped up in the next 24 hours.
Sa negotiating to stay at Wolves
Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa is in talks over a new contract to end the uncertainty over his future.
Sa has been offered an extension and is expected to commit his future to the club later this week.
The Portugal international was close to leaving under former head coach Julen Lopetegui, with Nottingham Forest interested in signing him this month.
A £7 million signing from Olympiacos, Sa produced an excellent performance in Wolves’s win over Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
