Wolves suffer a big setback as another important player is about to leave.

It has been reported that Manchester City have put in a new £51.4 million bid to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolves.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was claimed on Thursday that Gary O’Neil’s side’s financial struggles could make a deal likely.

Now, it seems like Manchester City are ramping up their pursuit to sign Matheus Nunes by launching their second bid to get the deal done.

Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City could seal Matheus Nunes transfer with £51.4 million bid
Branded as ‘unstoppable’ by journalist Zach Lowy, it was revealed on Thursday that Pep Guardiola has been an admirer of the 25-year-old for years now.

With Kevin De Bruyne set to be sidelined for a number of months, the treble-winners need another reinforcement in midfield to make up for his absence.
Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Manchester City have submitted a second bid worth £51.4 million to sign Matheus Nunes.
Interestingly, City are believed to be ‘confident’ that a deal is set to be struck after their initial £40.8 million bid was rejected by Wolves, with personal terms having also been agreed days ago.

The signing of Matheus Nunes could force a tactical change

Considering Matheus Nunes is not a creative midfielder like Kevin De Bruyne, many have been puzzled behind the willingness shown by Manchester City to have gone as far as to put in yet another bid for him.

The Portuguese international is similar to the likes of Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic in terms of being at his best in the first two phases of the pitch.

But perhaps Nunes may well be deployed deeper in a three-man midfield, which allows Foden to play as the side’s lone No.10.

Whether that is as part of a setup that incorporates a diamond, with Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez up top or one which shapes like a 3-3-1-3 in possession.

It will be interesting to see how Matheus Nunes is deployed at Manchester City if the deal goes through.
