Despite an injury that will likely keep him out of action until after Christmas, Steven Benda was said to be getting his medical yesterday at Fulham before a £1 million move to the Cottagers.
When Carl Rushworth moved to Swansea at the end of July, we started to wonder whether that may be the beginning of the end for Steven Benda. A few days later, there were the first newspaper reports that the goalkeeper might be headed to Fulham.
We discussed this press coverage in our post from August 1 (found here), and yesterday, the same journalist (Ian Mitchelmore) claimed to be getting a physical before moving to Fulham.
Benda is in the final year of his contract, so a fee of £1 million seems reasonable on the surface. However, with just Andy Fisher and loanee Rushworth still at the club, we won’t have enough backup goalies in case one of them gets hurt or is suspended.

It does, however, make it very plain that Michael Duff did not consider Benda to be a part of his first team plans when he recovers from injury, and given that fact, a transfer was the only sensible course of action.
