Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Timothée Pembélé.
The 20-year-old right back has signed a five-year contract at the Stadium of Light, joining the Club from Paris Saint-Germain for an undisclosed fee.
Pembélé has made 37 senior appearances in Ligue 1, featuring 11 times for PSG and 26 times during a successful season-long loan with FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
The right back moved to the French capital from US Persan 03 in 2015 and he made his senior debut five years later in November 2020, featuring in a star-studded XI that also included Kylian Mbappé and Neymar.
After making his UEFA Champions League debut the following week, he scored his first goal for PSG before the end of 2020 in a 4-0 win over RC Strasbourg Alsace.
Pembélé moved to the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux for the 2021-22 season and he made 28 appearances prior to returning to PSG due to injury, with his return to first-team action coming in February.
A Ligue 1 and Coupe de France winner, the 20-year-old has represented for France at youth level at Under-16, 17, 18 and 20 level, whilst also turning out for Les Bleus at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Kristjaan Speakman added: “Timothée possesses a range of attributes that we wanted to add to our squad this summer, which will build depth and add competition within the group. The fact he has chosen to commit his long-term future to our Club is a testament to our continued progress and we look forward to helping him settle into life at Sunderland AFC. We will be patient with him as he builds his fitness and then competes for a place in our team, but we are delighted to welcome Timothée to Wearside and believe he can become an important player for us.”
