Blackpool is set to sign Ipswich Town defender Elkan Baggott on loan, according to Football League World.
The 20-year-old is set to return to League One, after fighting for his place in Ipswich’s defence this preseason. Following the Tractors Boy’s strong start to the season and cover already in the centre-back position, Baggott will be joining a Tangerines’ side who will be looking to overcome their relegation from the Championship last season.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, EFL clubs have until 11 p.m. to conduct the rest of their business.
Who Is Elkan Baggott?
Apart of Ipswich’s academy since 2016, Baggott has progressed through the ranks up to the first team. Going on loan to King’s Lynn Town in the National League for the second half of the 2020/21 season, the defender got a move to the EFL last season with a loan to Gillingham.
Impressing with the Gills while they struggled near the bottom of League Two, Baggott was recalled midseason and joined Cheltenham Town in League One, where he only made one appearance as he struggled for game time.
A Slow Start
Following their return to the third tier of English football, Blackpool’s start has been uneventful. Opening the season with a 2-0 victory over Burton Albion, they followed that up with three straight 0-0 draws, a 3-0 defeat to Lincoln City and a 5-0 loss to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Cup.
Failing to score a goal in their last five fixtures, more signings in the attacking area may be a priority for the remainder of the transfer window.
Writer’s View
Baggott has impressed in spells during his young career, with League One looking to be more his level at this current moment. After a disappointing loan last season with the Robins, Baggott should work well under Blackpool boss Neil Critchley, where he should hopefully carry over his form from Ipswich’s pre-season.
