Only four games into the Premier League season, one Newcastle United player is already toeing the line in terms of discipline.
Newcastle’s first four games have resulted in three yellow cards for Anthony Gordon. He scored in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool, which is the only game the 22-year-old has played in without receiving a warning.
As a result, Gordon will be suspended for one match if he receives two more bookings before The Magpies’ 20th Premier League encounter of the season, which is currently on the road against Liverpool on December 30.
This season, no Premier League player has received more than three cautions.
Gordon has had a successful start to the season for Newcastle thanks to strong performances against both Aston Villa and Liverpool. However, Newcastle will be attempting to win its fourth straight game after the break after suffering three straight losses.
In January 2023, Gordon moved from Everton to Newcastle in a transaction worth up to £45 million. In 20 appearances for the team since his arrival, he has two goals.
In addition to Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali have both received two yellow cards in their first four games of this season. After receiving three more cautions by Boxing Day, they will each miss one match.
Joelinton, who played for Newcastle, has the most warnings issued to a player last season (12), earning him a three-match suspension.
Joelinton, Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, and Kieran Trippier have all had just one yellow card this season.
