Trabzonspor of the Turkish Super Lig is apparently in advanced negotiations to sign Southampton attacker Paul Onuachu, who is now out of favor.
Rudy Galetti, a journalist for Sportitalia and Sky Sport Italia, claims that Trabzonspor and Onuachu are nearing an agreement, and that a full agreement should be struck for the lanky striker in the next few hours.
Before choosing to sign his international teammate, Trabzonspor had also expressed interest in signing Nottingham Forest striker Emmanuel Dennis, according to Galetti.
Onuachu went to the Premier League in January, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with Southampton, but he hasn’t been able to match his Racing Genk heroics, when he scored 85 goals in 134 games.
He also had a significant impact for FC Midtjylland, with 97 goals (74 goals, 23 assists) in 179 games.
Given that Southampton paid 18 million euros to sign the striker, it seems improbable that Trabzonspor would be able to pay his transfer cost.
Despite rumors about his future, the 6 foot 7 inch striker has yet to make his Championship debut this year. He was a second-half substitute against Gillingham in the League Cup.
David Okereke, a second Nigerian striker who has been linked to Trabzonspor, is no longer interested in leaving Cremonese this month, regardless of whether his demand is satisfied.
When the transfer market reopens in January 2024, Okereke will reassess his alternatives.
🚨⏳ #Trabzonspor are closing in on #Onuachu deal, confirmed. ✅
🤝 Some details under discussion with #Southampton, but the full agreement is just matter of hours.
❌ Emmanuel #Dennis was also on the list as a possible new ST, but the 🇹🇷 club preferred to finalize with Paul. https://t.co/O7RndBxWcu pic.twitter.com/Zf9hCCKbqN
