Joelinton is scheduled to miss the Newcastle United games due to a recurrence of his knee ailment.
Joelinton is expected to miss Newcastle United’s next six games after suffering a knee injury while on international duty with Brazil.
The 27-year-old was absent from Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Brentford, which saw Eddie Howe’s team return to winning ways following three straight defeats.
The only setback ahead of Tuesday’s greatly anticipated Champions League showdown with AC Milan is the news of Joelinton’s injury.
What exactly is Joelinton’s injury?
The Brazilian sustained his knee injury at St James’ Park’s 2-1 loss to 10-man Liverpool last month.
He was a worry for the six-day trip to Brighton and Hove Albion, but passed a fitness test on the eve of the game. However, Joelinton only lasted 58 minutes at Amex Stadium, and Howe admitted after the game that he “wasn’t at 100 percent.”
What did Eddie Howe say?
Despite Howe’s admission, Joelinton joined Brazil’s squad, along with colleague Bruno Guimaraes.
He came in as a substitute in Newcastle’s victories over Bolivia and Peru, but a recurrence of his knee injury in the latter game forced him to miss the club’s victory over Brentford.
“Joe had a recurrence of his knee injury playing for Brazil in the second game,” Howe confirmed to reporters, “so he won’t be with us for a few weeks.”
