Callum Wilson will be hopeful that his goal-scoring exploits this season will earn him a place in tomorrow night’s Champions League clash with AC Milan.
On Saturday evening, Callum Wilson’s brilliantly struck penalty was the difference between Newcastle and Brentford after he had a goal unjustly chalked off for a foul that never was minutes earlier.
Wilson’s third goal of the season came in his first start of the season as well.
Wilson trained separately from the rest of the squad today. With a big game tomorrow night at the San Siro in Milan, the £20 million signing from Bournemouth will be hoping he’s done enough to earn a starting spot.
However, Keith Downie believes there is grounds for concern for the 31-year-old after Wilson posted on X that he trained away from the main group this morning before departing for Italy.
According to Downie’s post, “Callum Wilson trained separately from the main group this morning, doing some light running, before #NUFC travels over here to Milan this afternoon to face @acmilan tomorrow night.”
As frightening as that would be to read for any other player, it’s thought to be fairly usual for Wilson.
Wilson will be ready to play for Newcastle if called upon.

Eddie Howe likes to make sure Wilson is taken care of, given his injury history. When Howe was away with England at the World Cup, he was anxious that he wasn’t following the plan Newcastle had laid out for him.
So light duties following a Saturday game is nothing out of the usual, especially with another game coming up so soon.
Alexander Isak is expected to return to the starting lineup against Milan, although Wilson will be ready to come off the bench.
