Southampton manager Russell Martin has stated that Ipswich Town’s enthusiasm and momentum are propelling them forward in the Championship, but the Saints have yet to discover it.
Martin’s team has lost three games in a row in the league, and they are currently 13th in the Championship rankings.
Following back-to-back home losses to Leicester City and Ipswich, Saints are hoping to pick up three points against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
And Martin pointed out the key thing his side need to find to get the on-field rhythm moving forward.
He stressed that Ipswich’s impressive run in the league is propelled by their energy and momentum on the pitch, however, Saints have yet to discover a way to build them.
The English manager also lamented the lack of cohesion within the club and emphasised the necessity to bring it back.
“I am not passing excuses because we need to work to find a way through it, but there has been a lack of cohesion at this club”, Martin said at a press conference.
“There has been a lack of togetherness with the supporters, a lack of connection here at the training ground, and our job is to bring it back.
“I’m doing it while adopting a new style and a completely new way of behaving.”
“I’m hoping that by being completely honest with you and the players, we can finally connect.”
“We need to generate energy and momentum.”
“Ipswich have that, and it’s getting them to a really good place.”
“We do not have that, but we will find it.”
Southampton restructured their team this summer in the hopes of gaining rapid promotion this season.
