Leeds United may penalize Ian Poveda for driving violations – Finance Expert
Dr. Daniel Plumley, a football financial expert, has joined us as an exclusive columnist. Every week, he’ll weigh in on the most pressing issues at Leeds United…
Dan Plumley has claimed that after Ian Poveda pleaded guilty to driving offenses earlier this month, Leeds United may punish or reprimand him personally.
On September 12, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that the young winger pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.
Due to the potential terrible PR that comes from an employee, the finance expert stated that club discipline on top of it may be the wisest thing to do.
“That goes back to the PR narrative around this stuff,” he told MOT Leeds News exclusively.
“The offence has been dealt with and it’s a personal offence through the court system, but the club can decide to enact something further if they want to, be that in the form of a fine or a reprimand.”Again, that is entirely up to them, and I believe many clubs are doing those things to give the impression that the club cares about it. “The player has his own reputation, but he is linked to the club as an employee, so it’s sometimes the best thing to do some of that from the club perspective.”
Nothing formal has been released by the club as of yet, with Poveda appearing on the bench in the 3-0 win over Watford on Saturday 23 September.
