Will Swan scored his first goal since leaving Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night. After his strike for Mansfield Town, Brennan Johnson reacted on Instagram.
The 22-year-old was allowed to leave the City Ground on a permanent basis in the summer. Swan scored 10 goals on loan from Forest last season and Nigel Clough was keen to re-sign him.
The academy graduate made two appearances for the Reds during his time at the club. During the 2021/22 campaign, he scored bags of goals for the under-21s at the City Ground and earned himself a loan move.
Swan scores first Mansfield goal since Forest exit
The striker has taken to men’s football with aplomb. He starred last season as Mansfield narrowly missed out on the play-offs in League Two and it was no surprise to see him re-signed.
Forest felt that the time was right to let Swan leave. He wasn’t going to be playing in the Premier League any time soon and a move to Mansfield looks a good one.
ts to Swan goal for Mansfield
After the game on Tuesday night, Johnson took to Instagram. Swan posted on social media to say how delighted he was to reach this stage of the competition.
The goal came from the penalty spot and Johnson didn’t anticipate Swan missing. He posted: “You don’t miss those.”
Swan and Johnson will have played together at Forest as they were both coming through the ranks. The pair are both 22 and both players look set for bright futures.
Johnson has obviously kicked on a little bit more than Swan. He’s now got the chance to make a name for himself at Tottenham and that will be a challenge he will embrace.
Swan can still enjoy a successful career after leaving Forest though. Mansfield are on the up under Clough and the striker will hope that he can start getting more frequent minutes on the pitch.
