Drones have recently been lighting up the sky above St James’ Park as preparations for a drone show ahead of Newcastle United’s Champions League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

Social media was flooded with photographs and videos of the drones in action, forming Newcastle jerseys with player names and numbers on the back, a Newcastle shirt with “We’re back” underneath, and an arrangement featuring the Sela logo and a magpie pounding its wings.

Everything appears to be amazing, and Pete Graves has provided an update on when you may catch the actual thing.

The display will be shown TONIGHT, not Wednesday
Everybody had assumed that the amazing light show would take place before kick-off in the Paris Saint-Germain Champions League game on Wednesday evening but due to safety regulations that won’t be the case.
As Sky Sports‘ Pete Graves posted on X the show will actually take place tonight!: “#NUFC Drones – @Sela behind idea to give fans a show to mark return to #ChampionsLeague. Final shows planned at 8pm & 9:45pm ish TONIGHT! Fans should NOT gather at stadium, as won’t be able to see from there. Better from a distance. Safety issues prevent a show on Wednesday.”
Newcastle United’s new front-of-shirt sponsors Sela have arranged the drone display as a way to announce the return of Champions League football to St James’ Park.

The drone exhibit and Fan Zone are the brainchild of Sela.
It’s no surprise that as a Saudi-based events firm, they’re already thinking of fresh ways to put Newcastle back on the map in Europe.
