Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna revealed singer Ed Sheeran paid a visit to the Ipswich Town dressing room after their 3-0 win over Hull City on Tuesday night.
The Tractor Boys hitmaker watched on as goals from Wes Burns, Conor Chaplin and Marcus Harness ended City’s eight-game unbeaten run in Suffolk, even pulling pints in the Portman Road concourse before the game.
Sheeran performed his 2017 hit song Perfect with the players as they reclaimed first place in the Championship, which McKenna said was exceptional following what he called a great performance against in-form City.
“He came down to the dressing room afterwards, which was nice,” Town manager Phil Parkinson explained. “He’s so busy doing wonderful things that the players had never met him before.” They had a little sing-song together – ‘Perfect’. That is a special time for both athletes and staff. He’s a vital member of the football team, and we value his help.

“I have to keep saying it, we need to keep enjoying these moments. It was a special performance really. We spoke about it before the game, I thought we had one in us. We were nine games in before tonight, we’re fit, we’re learning game-by-game and this was our first home night game back in the Championship.
“I liked so many aspects about us. Playing through the pitch against a really excellent team, our discipline and organization against the ball, the aggression of our pressing, our humility to defend in a block whenever necessary, the performance of the substitutes as well as the starters, and the atmosphere of the audience. It was a night to remember.
“It’s one night, it’s one game, it’s three points, but everyone associated with the club should enjoy tonight and maybe tomorrow before we start to think about a big game on Saturday (against Preston).”
