Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle United had a ‘night to remember’ on Wednesday at St James’ Park.
Newcastle won the Champions League for the first time in over 20 years, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in their first match at St James’ Park.
The Magpies claimed a historic victory thanks to goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff, and Fabian Schar. Guimaraes was instrumental in the victory, providing a dinked ball to the back post that set up Burn’s first-half header.
United’s sixth win in six outings puts them atop their Champions League group after two games. Eddie Howe’s team began their Champions League campaign last month with a 0-0 draw at AC Milan.

And Guimaraes, whose new contract with Newcastle is expected to be finalized in the coming days, took to social media to respond to the win over PSG.

Newcastle thrash PSG on Champions League homecoming

“One night to remember forever!” Guimaraes took to Twitter. “I am extremely proud of the team!” We have the world’s best fans! We continue. Everyone had an incredible performance.”
The Brazilian midfielder has extended his contract with Newcastle until June 2028. In January 2022, he joined The Magpies from Lyon in the midst of a relegation struggle for £40 million.

Just over a year and a half later, The Magpies are back in the Champions League. Guimaraes has committed his future to the club, although his new contract apparently includes a release clause worth in the region of €10 million.
