Neil Redfearn, who has been linked to Bradford City, has officially departed from Oldham Athletic, according to the club’s website. The 58-year-old manager is reportedly a target for Bradford City, a League Two team in search of a new head coach.
This move follows the recent parting of ways between Mark Hughes and Bradford City due to a disappointing start to the season. Kevin McDonald has taken over as the interim manager and has led the team to two consecutive victories. Bradford City is scheduled to play against AFC Wimbledon this weekend.
Neil Redfearn, a Dewsbury native, boasts a wealth of managerial experience and transitioned into coaching after retiring from his playing career in 2008. During his playing days, he featured as a midfielder for clubs such as Bolton Wanderers, Lincoln City, and Crystal Palace.
Redfearn has managed several teams in the past, including Scarborough, Northwich Victoria, Leeds United, Rotherham United, and Newcastle United’s U23 squad. He has also had stints in women’s football with Doncaster Rovers Belles, Liverpool, and Sheffield United.
In his most recent role, Redfearn served as the caretaker assistant at Oldham, alongside Steve Thompson. However, both have now left the National League club and are considering their next steps in the game.
Currently, Bradford City, under Kevin McDonald’s leadership, is performing well, which has reduced the immediate pressure to find a permanent head coach. The club aims to make a carefully considered appointment as they seek promotion to League One. Last season, Bradford City reached the playoffs under Mark Hughes but were defeated in the semi-finals by eventual winners Carlisle United over two legs.
