West Brom’s winger, Jeremy Sarmiento, has displayed flashes of excitement during this season but is currently sidelined due to injury. Coach Carlos Corberan acknowledges that he was aware of the potential risk after Sarmiento’s first start for West Brom last month and emphasizes the club’s commitment to ensuring his availability for the rest of his loan spell.
The calls for Sarmiento to start a game had been growing steadily over his first eight appearances, all of which were as a substitute. During this time, he managed to score a goal, contributing to an entertaining victory against Middlesbrough.
Corberan eventually gave Sarmiento a starting role in the recent goalless draw against Millwall at The Hawthorns, rotating several first-team players to manage a congested schedule. Sarmiento played around 75 minutes in that game and, despite some signs of fatigue in the following week, he was cleared to play at Preston North End a week later.
Sarmiento made another substitute appearance in a notable win at Deepdale. However, after a victory over Sheffield Wednesday a few days later, Sarmiento’s absence from the 20-man squad was conspicuous. Corberan confirmed that Sarmiento had suffered a setback and would be sidelined for a month. He is expected to potentially return for the match against Coventry City on October 30th, and Corberan intends for this to be his only period of absence.
Corberan mentioned that each of Sarmiento’s injuries has been different, including a significant hamstring injury and a metatarsal fracture in previous years. When Sarmiento joined the club, careful attention was paid to his training and preparation. Despite this, Corberan acknowledged the risk of the current situation, considering the player’s injury history.
