Fabian Schär had a standout performance for Newcastle United during their 4-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the recent Champions League match. Despite being away with the Swiss national team, Schär managed to score a goal in injury time at St James’ Park. In an interview with Blick, the Newcastle player shared his thoughts on the PSG clash and expressed his awe at the incredible atmosphere at St James’ Park, which he described as an experience like no other.
Schär, who joined Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruña in 2018, is genuinely delighted with his time at the club. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but there is an option for Newcastle to extend it for an additional year.
Schär has indicated his desire for a new contract with Eddie Howe’s team, emphasizing that Newcastle has become his second home, and he feels entirely at ease with the team, coach, and club. He hopes that his journey with the Magpies will continue.
The 31-year-old defender had a somewhat limited role in the league, making fewer than 24 appearances until the conclusion of the 2020/21 season. However, his situation improved significantly after Eddie Howe took over as manager in November 2021, and Schär has since become a regular starter for Newcastle. Blick has suggested that the manager’s influence is a primary reason for Schär’s desire to extend his stay at Newcastle. According to Schär, Howe has a keen understanding of the individual needs of each player and provides valuable guidance and support.
