According to sources from eurosport, negotiations for a new contract between West Ham and midfielder Tomas Soucek have hit a standstill in the past year. The 28-year-old player has recently been linked with a move to Italian giants Inter Milan.
Soucek’s current contract with West Ham is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, although the club has the option to extend it for another year. West Ham is reportedly eager to retain the services of the Czech Republic international and has engaged in discussions regarding a new contract. However, these talks have come to a halt, potentially paving the way for other interested clubs, including Inter Milan.
Despite the contractual uncertainty, Soucek continues to be a pivotal part of West Ham’s lineup, especially after the departure of Declan Rice during the summer transfer window. In the 2023-24 season, he has already made ten appearances, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
Soucek has been a consistent starter for West Ham in most of their Premier League matches, helping the team secure a seventh-place position in the table.
His significance to the West Ham squad was evident last season when they won the Europa Conference League, with Soucek contributing three goals and six assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. Soucek initially joined West Ham in January 2020 and has amassed 165 appearances for the club since then.
The combative midfielder, whose acquisition reportedly cost West Ham a total fee of £19 million, has registered 26 goals and nine assists during his tenure at the London Stadium. West Ham has recently taken steps to extend the contract of their key player, Jarrod Bowen, securing his services until 2030.
It’s worth noting that other West Ham players, including Vladimir Coufal, Michail Antonio, Lukasz Fabianski, and Angelo Ogbonna, are also approaching the end of their contracts at the conclusion of this season.
