The newly appointed manager of Sheffield Wednesday, Danny Rohl, draws on his 18-month experience as an assistant manager at Southampton, where he worked under Ralph Hasenhuttl in the Premier League. Rohl, a German coach, believes that facing the pressure of relegation battles at Southampton has equipped him to tackle the challenge he now encounters with Sheffield Wednesday.
During his tenure on the south coast, Southampton was perilously close to relegation in the Premier League, initially in the bottom three when he joined, but ultimately finishing 11th and 15th during his time there. Rohl spent 18 months at Southampton before moving on to become an analysis assistant coach at Bayern Munich under Niko Kovac at the Allianz Arena, and later as part of the Germany national team setup under Hansi Flick.
Now, Rohl assumes his first managerial role, becoming Sheffield Wednesday’s 11th permanent boss in the last 12 years. The Owls are currently at the bottom of the Championship table, having recently dismissed their previous manager, Spaniard Xisco Munoz.
At just 34 years of age, Rohl has become the youngest manager in the Championship, and he believes that his experiences at Southampton have adequately prepared him for the challenges he faces this season. He emphasizes the importance of having a clear identity and philosophy for the team and expresses his enthusiasm for creating a distinct playing style for Sheffield Wednesday.
Rohl is encouraged by the positive atmosphere at the club and the strong fan base, and he looks forward to building a new future for the team. His first match in charge of Sheffield Wednesday will be on Saturday as they travel to Vicarage Road to face Watford, who currently sit in 20th place in the Championship.
