According to a report from the Northern Echo, Newcastle United is currently engaged in advanced discussions with Fabian Schar regarding a new contract. Schar’s existing contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the current season, but it appears that he is on track to become the fourth Newcastle player to ink an extension in the past month. This follows recent contract renewals for Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes, and Dan Burn.
The report indicates that Eddie Howe is eager to retain the services of the Swiss international at Tyneside. Both the Toon boss and the club’s ownership group have been impressed by the 31-year-old’s performances over the past 18 months. Swiss media had previously reported that there is an option to extend Schar’s contract by an additional 12 months, but the new deal may also include a well-deserved salary increase, given his noteworthy performances alongside Sven Botman.
It’s probable that the club will seek to sign a younger right-sided center-back in 2024 who can compete with and eventually succeed Schar.

Nevertheless, Schar’s form has notably improved since Eddie Howe’s arrival, with his most outstanding performance occurring in Newcastle’s 4-1 victory over PSG earlier this month.
