Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray has shared concerning news regarding player injuries in the lead-up to their upcoming match against Leicester City. The Black Cats face a challenging schedule with two games in one week, playing against Leicester on Wednesday and hosting Norwich City on Saturday. This comes after their recent 2-1 loss to Stoke City.
Mowbray expressed his concerns about player fitness via the club’s official social media account (formerly known as Twitter). He mentioned that a group of players did not participate in first-team training on Monday, stating, “There’s a group of three or four players who were absent from today’s training session – we’ll assess their condition as we approach the match.”
This injury update is disheartening for Sunderland fans, particularly considering that Leicester is currently leading the Championship, having won eleven out of their twelve games and currently on a seven-game winning streak. This presents a significant challenge for Mowbray’s team, and additional injuries will only make matters worse.
Notably, Sunderland is already dealing with injuries to Corry Evans, who is expected to be sidelined until the new year due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, as well as Ajibola Alese, Dennis Cirkin, and Jay Matete, who are anticipated to return next month. The mentioned players who missed training on Monday do not include any of these previously injured individuals, which raises concerns for Mowbray as they face a demanding schedule in the coming days.
