Birmingham City now set to sign 30-year-old fantastic star as Wayne Rooney looks to pad out his new squad

Birmingham City’s interest in signing goalkeeper Jack Butland from Rangers has been noted, but there are concerns regarding the price tag set by his current club. Rangers, who acquired Butland on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in July, have reportedly placed a ‘private valuation’ on him of over £5 million. However, this figure may be beyond Birmingham’s financial reach.

Former West Brom and Leeds United player Carlton Palmer commented on Butland’s price tag, expressing doubts about Birmingham’s ability to afford both the transfer fee and his salary due to the player being 30 years old. Butland has earned a strong reputation over the years and was described as a ‘consummate professional’ by Patrick Vieira during their time together at Crystal Palace.

Revived star now worth £5m just months after leaving Man Utd as current club react to growing interest

Wayne Rooney recently took charge at St Andrew’s, and Birmingham City is looking to improve their position in the Championship table. While they have been linked to Butland, the team already has two experienced goalkeepers, Neil Etheridge and John Ruddy, on their roster. It appears that, for various reasons, Birmingham may need to explore other options if they wish to add another goalkeeper to their squad.
