Carlos Corberan, the West Brom manager, has expressed his admiration for Coventry City’s long-serving manager, Mark Robins, who has been with the Sky Blues for nearly seven years. Corberan aims to replicate Robins’ tenure at The Hawthorns. While Corberan typically doesn’t think too far ahead and focuses on one game at a time, he believes that if he can stay at West Brom as long as Robins has been at Coventry, they can achieve remarkable success.
Mark Robins took over Coventry in 2017 and led the club to two promotions, coming close to a third last season but narrowly missing out in the playoff final. In an interview with the Express and Star before a game on October 30, Corberan shared that his mind is primarily occupied with the present and the next match due to his intense approach to each game. He emphasized that his main target is to make significant achievements at West Brom, even though he only has the time to reflect on his one-year anniversary at the club.
He expressed his aspiration to leave a lasting legacy at the club, just as Robins has done at Coventry by promoting them from League One to the Championship and making playoff runs for Premier League promotion.
Corberan acknowledged Robins as a special and calm manager with a strong underlying passion, earning his respect as a person. Despite celebrating his one-year anniversary as West Brom’s manager and paying tribute to the behind-the-scenes staff, Corberan is determined to achieve more successful years at The Hawthorns.
West Brom fans are hopeful that Corberan will stay with the club for as long as Robins has been with Coventry. Corberan’s commitment and belief in the club’s future, especially evident when he resisted an opportunity to join Leeds United in the summer, have garnered the trust of many Albion supporters. The immediate focus remains on the Coventry match and securing crucial points in the Championship, but the duration of his reign at The Hawthorns is uncertain and could extend far into the future.
