Taylor Harwood-Bellis, on loan at Southampton from Manchester City, has expressed his strong desire to remain with Southampton if the club secures promotion to the Premier League this season.
Harwood-Bellis, who serves as the England Under-21 captain, has made a significant impact during his loan spell at Southampton, starting in all eight of his appearances in the Championship. He recently scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 victory over Birmingham City.
The player’s contract with Southampton includes a clause that allows him to join the club permanently for a fee of £20 million at the end of the season. However, this option is contingent on Southampton gaining promotion to the Premier League in the current campaign.
In an interview with the Daily Echo, Harwood-Bellis expressed his enthusiasm for the possibility of remaining with Southampton, stating, “That’s the drive of the whole club, to get back to the Premier League, and that’s where I want to be. I haven’t thought too much about that yet as it is a long way away, and we have to grind to get ourselves there. I’ve loved it here, it’s a lovely part of the world. I’ve settled in well, and that’s due to the staff, the players, and everyone at the club. I’m enjoying my time here.”
He also noted his prior experience with Burnley, where he helped the team secure promotion to the Premier League last season. Harwood-Bellis emphasized that he is focused on contributing to the team and applying himself consistently.
His strong desire to continue with Southampton reflects his positive experience with the club and his aspiration to compete in the Premier League.
