As Matthew Stafford is recovering from an injury, it’s anticipated that Brett Rypien will be the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, with Dresser Winn as the backup.

Recent reports confirm that the Rams are signing quarterback Dresser Winn to their roster. This decision comes after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers added John Wolford to their 53-man roster, rejecting the Rams’ attempt to reacquire Wolford, who was a former backup to Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford. This suggests that Dresser Winn is now the contingency plan behind the backup quarterback, indicating that the Rams might be very close to having the former undrafted free agent from UT-Martin play in a professional game this season.

Coach Sean McVay has stated that they are monitoring Stafford’s UCL thumb sprain on a day-to-day basis. Given this, it’s unlikely that Stafford will start against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, especially with a bye week on the horizon. McVay even mentioned the possibility of placing Stafford on injured reserve just a day ago.

Although the Rams selected a quarterback in the fourth round of this year’s draft, it seems that Stetson Bennett is unlikely to be with the team this year, according to McVay. As a result, Brett Rypien is expected to take the starting role against Green Bay, with Dresser Winn as the backup, unless Stafford is deemed fit to play.
