Newcastle United went into their Carabao Cup match against Manchester United with a substantial list of injuries, and it seems they may have added to that list during their visit to Old Trafford.

Eddie Howe’s makeshift team put on an impressive performance, winning 3-0 and advancing to the quarter-finals. However, there was a significant setback during the game. Matt Targett had to leave the field early in the match. Ironically, his substitution by Miguel Almiron led to Newcastle’s opening goal, with Almiron scoring after an excellent play by Tino Livramento.

Initially, the loss of Targett seemed to be the only concern arising from the game. But things took a different turn when the club released a behind-the-scenes video of the Newcastle players returning to the dressing room after the match. While the coaching staff and players were celebrating, Bruno Guimaraes, who is usually lively, appeared to be in pain. The £40 million midfielder could be seen grimacing and limping past the camera.

Bruno had only played the last 25 minutes, coming on for Joe Willock after Newcastle had taken a 3-0 lead. His role was to help see out the game, but it appears he may have injured himself during a challenge.

On Instagram after the 3-0 win, Bruno shared a photo that explained why he was limping. The image showed his boot with a hole in it, suggesting that he was stepped on by a Manchester United player, which likely caused his discomfort.

It is hoped that Bruno’s injury is just an impact injury and not a more serious problem, as Newcastle has two crucial matches on the horizon. They will face Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday before a Champions League trip to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. Newcastle will need all their key players fit and ready for these games, especially Bruno.
