Mehrdad Ghodoussi, co-owner of Newcastle United, has responded to the team’s 2-0 defeat in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.
In this match, Niclas Fullkurg and Julian Brandt scored in each half, giving the Bundesliga side a strong advantage in their quest to advance to the last-16, while Newcastle’s chances of progression suffered a significant blow. Currently, the Magpies are three points away from the qualification places, with two games remaining against Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.
After the game, Ghodoussi took to social media to share his thoughts, saying, “Although it wasn’t the result we hoped for, the players put in their best effort. The outcome was decided by fine margins. Thank you to all the fans who traveled to support us. Wishing you a safe journey back. #HWTL #NUFC.”
Approximately 20,000 Newcastle supporters traveled to Germany for the match, even though the club’s official away allocation was less than 4,000. Many United fans were situated in the home section of the stadium, but unfortunately, they had little to celebrate during the game at the Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund remains the only team to have defeated Newcastle in their last 13 matches in all competitions. Now, Newcastle is gearing up to return to Premier League action, facing AFC Bournemouth on Saturday evening with a 5:30pm kick-off.
The Magpies are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table after 11 matches, but they will have to contend with up to 10 players missing from the squad due to injuries and suspensions for their trip to the Vitality Stadium.
