West Brom receives major transfer boost as they’re in Top race for outstanding 23-year-old midfielder with potentially January move on cards

On November 12, the newspaper stated on their website that the Hungarian international is generating widespread interest, both at home and abroad, with Premier League clubs Burnley and Sheffield United pursuing him.

On the continent, Union Berlin of the Bundesliga, Lens of Ligue 1, Anderlecht of Belgium, and Braga of Portugal are all interested in the “versatile” option.

Styles, who plays for Oakwell in League One, is expected to represent Hungary at the Euros next summer. He already has 16 international caps.

He spent time on loan with Championship side Millwall after three seasons in the second tier with Barnsley before returning to his parent club in the third division this season.

As with any transfer war, there are a lot of moving factors right now when it comes to West Brom’s possibilities.

They can obviously point to an encouraging trajectory with Carlos Corberan in command, but unless a long-awaited takeover is completed within the next few weeks, they are unlikely to have much in the way of a midseason transfer budget.

The off-field issues continue to simmer on in the background and are supposed to be resolved by the summer, but Styles appears to have been snatched up elsewhere by then.

If the Baggies make an attempt this winter, a chance in the Premier League or even the Champions League will be difficult to compete with, but the club must believe there is an outside possibility if they remain in the picture despite stiff competition.

Corberan has continued to impress despite limited resources at The Hawthorns this season, despite a narrow 2-1 loss to relegated Southampton on Saturday (11 November).

That takes Albion into the international break on a down note, but the club is still seventh in the table, so if Styles wants to return to the division he is most familiar with, West Brom is still a viable choice.
