After his 2022 stint with the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL, playmaker Albert Kelly has opted to prolong his association with an Australian club. According to the club’s announcement, Kelly has chosen to renew his contract with the Souths Logan Magpies, a QLD Cup team.

The Magpies reached Week 2 of the QLD Cup finals but were eliminated following a 30-24 defeat to the Wynnum Manly Seagulls. In the previous season, the team included players like former New Zealand international Issac Luke and the Broncos’ young duo, Benjamin Te Kura and Israel Leota.

The club shared the news on their social media platforms, stating, “The fan favorite is making a comeback in 2024 to lead the Magpies on the field. With 176 games of NRL/Super League experience, his contributions will be invaluable both on and off the field. Familiar to Magpies fans, this marks Albert’s fourth season in the Black and White.”

Kelly, who played for three NRL teams over six seasons, participated in 59 first-grade games and concluded his NRL tenure with the Broncos in 2022. During his final stretch in the NRL, he secured a spot in the halves following Anthony Milford’s departure, but his tenure was marred by a drunken altercation with Payne Haas.

The Under-18s NSW junior also had overseas stints with the Hull Kingston Rovers and Hull FC, accumulating a total of 117 Super League appearances.
