This afternoon, significant news has surfaced, revealing that Everton is facing a 10-point deduction for violating the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
The deduction takes effect immediately, causing Everton to drop from the 14th position with 14 points to the 19th position with four points, despite their recent success in three out of the last five games under Sean Dyche.
In response to the decision, Everton is expected to promptly appeal and is reportedly stunned by the ruling. The next Premier League away game for Newcastle is scheduled at Goodison Park on December 7th.
A statement from the Premier League, released on Friday lunchtime, confirmed the 10-point deduction. The independent commission, responsible for the decision, found Everton in breach of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) and imposed the penalty immediately. The club had acknowledged the breach for the period ending Season 2021/22 during the proceedings, but the extent of the breach was disputed.
After a five-day hearing last month, the commission determined that Everton’s PSR calculation resulted in a loss of £124.5 million, surpassing the permitted threshold of £105 million under the PSRs. Consequently, the commission concluded that a sporting sanction in the form of a 10-point deduction should be enforced, effective immediately.
