Following his arrival at St James’ Park, Marcel Bout, Newcastle’s new chief of global scouting, has announced his objective to locate “the new Haaland, Bellingham, and Musiala.”
Our newest off-field hire has indicated that he is ‘focused on young talent up to 23 years old’, looking for players with the ability to break into Eddie Howe’s first team.
The former Manchester United and Bayern Munich talent scout says he’ll ‘search everywhere’ for the next great thing and try to ‘find the pounds amid the pennies,’ hoping to uncover and recruit young talents ‘before they’re worth £100m.’
When asked about the challenge at hand in Newcastle, he told the Sunday Mirror:
“I’m on the hunt for the new Haaland, Bellingham, and Musiala.” I’m looking for young players aged 18 to 23 who have the ability to get into Newcastle’s first squad.
“My motto is that if you always look to the left, you won’t be able to see anything on the right.” So I search everywhere. Newcastle has hired me to find all of the top talent. I’m looking for the pounds among the pennies.
“It is my ambition not only to identify those big talents, but also to put everything in place so that these players can join Newcastle United right away.” I’d like to get them before they’re worth £100 million.”
“I am really happy that I can work again – and what a club to work for,” Bout said of his decision to join Newcastle.Newcastle is a fantastic club. Only a few weeks ago, PSG was thrown off the pitch in Newcastle. I believe I know why Newcastle came to my door. I had a similar function at Manchester United.
“The Newcastle head of scouting is in charge of the players who go straight into the first team.” However, this club has expanded to the point that they require a significant number of personnel to operate the scouting department. Top-class players and top talent with potential are not available at the same time.”
Dan Ashworth has already emphasized the significance of finding and signing top young players before they become ultra-expensive stars, so Bout’s arrival is a good boost as we continue to work within FFP constraints.
