Bantams workhorse star player rejects idea of rest as he aims to right wrongs

Alex Gilliead of Bradford City is keen to play tonight in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy against Barnsley.

Both teams have already qualified for the last-32 of the championship ahead of the all-Yorkshire showdown at Valley Parade, so the game is essentially a dead rubber.

Graham Alexander, on the other hand, argues that this game is no less significant as a result, and it appears that he has ingrained that mentality in his players.

Not only does Gilliead want to be back on the pitch tonight as one of the players who has not been rotated out of the team, but he also wants to right the wrongs of Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Notts County in League Two, a game in which the Bantams were four goals down at half-time.

When asked if he wanted to take a well-earned rest following the weekend setback and concentrate entirely on the league game against Accrington this Saturday, Gilliead insisted: “I think everyone wants to play, especially after the game today (against Notts).”

“You want to play again, make things right, and do well.”

“It’s one of those games where we can try and get the win and start to build some confidence within ourselves.”
