Leeds United’s right-back on loan, Rasmus Kristensen, faced criticism along with the Denmark squad for celebrating their qualification for the European Championships. While away from Daniel Farke’s current squad, there is hope that loaned players can demonstrate enough skill to justify the club’s previous investment in them.
Departing in the summer transfer window, many of these players haven’t shown much to suggest they’ll be in demand in 2024. During the international break, Kristensen had an opportunity to regain top form with Denmark after a mixed start with Roma on loan this season.
“I’m not feeling it. I’m not sure about some of the others. It’s been a few days, but it’s obvious that when you qualify for the Euros, you must be allowed to celebrate, which we did. But none of this has anything to do with our performance on Monday. I don’t believe we lacked strength or energy.”
Denmark secured their Euro 2024 qualification by defeating Slovenia, but a subsequent 2-0 loss to Northern Ireland drew national media criticism for their post-match celebrations. Responding to the backlash, Kristensen downplayed the idea that their celebrations impacted their poor performance at Windsor Park, emphasizing that after a high, there’s often a low. Drawing parallels, he mentioned Liverpool’s post-title win defeat to Man City, asserting that, for him, admitting poor play without excuses is not much better.
