West Bromwich Albion are said to be interested in acquiring Peterborough United attacker Kwame Poku this winter, but they will face stiff competition from a number of Sky Bet Championship rivals.
The Baggies are thought to be trying to strengthen their front line and have identified Peterborough’s star player as a key target. TEAMtalk says that West Brom are joined in the fight by Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Millwall, Bristol City, and Stoke City, making it a potentially difficult deal.
Poku has six goals and six assists in 16 Sky Bet League One appearances this season, while he had a direct hand in 15 goals in 37 games last season. He struggled in the Championship the previous season, failing to score in 20 appearances, but he was only a youngster at the time.
During 2023/24, the Posh’s flexible offensive midfielder, who can play anywhere across the front three or just behind the striker, has truly come into his own. Poku, whose current contract expires in June 2025, has established himself as one of the greatest players in League One.
Where would Poku fit in at West Brom?
It may be difficult to start the Ghana international right away at The Hawthorns, since Grady Diangana, Jed Wallace, and Brandon Thomas-Asante have all started to improve. Poku’s adaptability, on the other hand, would undoubtedly be crucial, as he could slide in anywhere across the attack as needed.
Poku could eventually become a regular starter for Albion if he develops his own form. The issue may be the competition for the deal, as West Brom may have to provide consistent game time to convince Poku of his choice.
