Newcastle United is reportedly showing interest in acquiring Everton’s striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Sporting’s center-back, Ousmane Diomande. Eddie Howe, the manager, is said to prioritize securing a new central midfielder, but if the budget permits, he is also interested in bolstering the team’s defense and forward positions during the upcoming January transfer window.

The club, under new ownership by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund since October 2021, has made significant signings like Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali. Despite talks of a ‘Newcastle tax,’ they have maintained financial prudence and adhered to financial fair play regulations.

In the quest for a central midfielder, Newcastle is linked with Ruben Neves and Kalvin Phillips, while the team is reportedly considering strengthening their attack with the addition of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the possibility of a loan deal in January and a permanent signing at the end of the season. Paris Saint-Germain’s Hugo Ekitike and Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are also mentioned as potential attacking targets.

As for the defensive side, the club is interested in Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande, but any potential deal is unlikely to happen in January. Sporting is focused on their league campaign, and Diomande has an €80 million release clause in his contract. The 19-year-old has garnered interest not only from Newcastle but also from Premier League rivals Arsenal. Despite playing 16 games this season and showing promise, Diomande is expected to see out the season with Sporting.
