Pundit speaks on potential double swoop for Newcastle in January market

Gabby Agbonlahor, a talkSPORT analyst, has discussed the possibility of Newcastle signing Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale in January.

Agbonlahor believes Newcastle would look at Phillips in January, noting that while Ruben Neves would be a fantastic player for them, Phillips would “make sense”.

They then discussed Aaron Ramsdale, who is being kept out of the Arsenal lineup by David Raya, and Agbonlahor believes he would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle.

All of the elite clubs have a goalkeeper who can play out from the back, according to Agbonlahor, but he believes Nick Pope is a “top shot stopper but can’t play with his feet.”

Phillips has only played eight games for Manchester City this season, totaling 215 minutes.

Meanwhile, Ramsdale has struggled for minutes since Raya’s arrival in the summer, making seven appearances for the Gunners this season, maintaining two clean sheets and totaling 630 minutes of play.

With both of these players fighting for minutes this season, teams, whether Newcastle or another, could come knocking in January.
