Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith spoke about the team’s alarming lack of offensive touchdowns after a disappointing 31-13 loss to the 49ers on Thanksgiving Day. While the Seahawks may have taken a brief break from their struggles to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner, they now face the urgent task of addressing their offensive issues in upcoming practices. The offense failed to perform yet again in the 31-13 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, with Geno Smith, who was questionable due to a right elbow injury, struggling to lead productive drives. In the game, he went 18-of-27 for 180 passing yards, threw one interception, and failed to score any touchdowns, extending Seattle’s remarkably ineffective offensive streak.

This offensive struggle dates back to the previous weekend’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams, marking seven consecutive quarters without an offensive touchdown for the Seahawks. Despite Smith denying that his health impacted Thursday’s performance, he took full responsibility and expressed unwavering confidence in the team.

“I still believe in our coaches,” stated the 2022 Pro Bowler. “I still believe in our players. I think it’s been a tough stretch for us, but I believe that things will turn around.”

Seahawks' Geno Smith won Comeback Player of the Year for 2022-23 season

While Smith remains optimistic, some fans are worried that offensive coordinator Shane Waldron is not adequately addressing the issue. The absence of the injured Kenneth Walker III has significantly impacted Seattle’s running game, a fundamental aspect of Pete Carroll-led teams. If Walker cannot return to full health, scoring points may continue to be a challenge.

Geno Smith, who had a surprising quarterback season, leading the Seahawks to the playoffs and establishing himself as an NFL starter, has faced a more challenging 2023-24 campaign. Currently, he has 2,584 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a concerning 50.6 QBR. Despite these struggles, as the reigning Comeback Player of the Year, Smith has already revived his career once, leaving room for the hope that he can breathe new life into the 6-5 squad facing a stalled season.
