West Ham boss David Moyes believes his team will improve defensively when they meet Burnley later today.
Our Hammers travel to Turf Moor for the return of domestic football after the international break, with Moyes’ men picking up a crucial victory against Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium last time out.
The manager will be aiming to carry that momentum into the game against Burnley, who are now anchored to the bottom of the table, having lost all six of their home fixtures in the top tier, and Moyes will be hoping West Ham can maintain that trend.
Moyes, on the other hand, acknowledges he is dissatisfied with his team’s failure to keep out the goals so far this season, and concedes that a desire to play more openly is contributing to the problem. He does, however, hope that it will be handled.
“We’re trying to play slightly more openly, which may have resulted in us conceding more goals, which I’m really disappointed about,” Moyes told the press, according to the club’s official website.
“But that is the balance you must strike. You want to add more attacking players while without conceding more. It’s something we need to focus on and improve defensively.”
The Irons manager also understands that the team is now set for a grueling run of fixtures, with lots to juggle both domestically and on the European stage – and a win against Burnley would undoubtedly be a terrific way to set the tone for the weeks ahead.
“With the schedule we have coming up, it will be extremely difficult to manage.” It’s impossible to say how we’ll do it, and I wish someone would look into it since it could benefit us.
“We’re thrilled to be playing in Europe, and we want to compete in the Premier League and have good runs in the cup competitions.” It’s a demanding schedule if you want to do all of stuff. We’ll go with it, take each game as it comes, and do our best.”
