Former CFL DB joins practice roster with San Francisco 49ers

According to multiple reports, Erik Harris, a former Canadian Football League (CFL) defensive back, has joined the San Francisco 49ers’ practice roster. Standing at six feet two inches and weighing 225 pounds, Harris spent three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2013 to 2015, accumulating 79 defensive tackles, 27 special teams tackles, and three interceptions while playing as a strong-side linebacker.

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Harris has had previous stints in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and now the 49ers. The 33-year-old has an NFL career that includes 91 games played, 43 starts, and notable statistics such as 267 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, 28 pass knockdowns, five interceptions, one forced fumble, and 0.5 sacks.

The move to add Harris to the roster comes as a response to the unfortunate injury to San Francisco’s Pro Bowl safety, Talanoa Hufanga, who recently suffered a torn ACL, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Currently leading the NFC West standings with an 8-3 record, the 49ers are set to face the Philadelphia Eagles (10-1) on Sunday, December 3, with the game scheduled to kick off at 3:25 p.m. EST.
