According to information from Chris Lepkowski, there is strong indication that West Bromwich Albion may be compelled to offload players if a takeover doesn’t materialize soon. On Monday (27 November), the club revealed securing an additional loan from MSD Holdings, yet the exact amount remains undisclosed.

This new financial injection is expected to sustain the club temporarily while the majority shareholder, Guochuan Lai, awaits the completion of a potential takeover. While this might suggest West Brom won’t need to sell players in the upcoming transfer window, Lepkowski expresses uncertainty about this outcome.

Responding to a query on Twitter regarding the vulnerability of West Brom to losing key players in January, Lepkowski stated, “Someone knowledgeable about our financial situation informed me this is highly likely in January. Time will tell. The new loan may offer some protection, but my optimism is limited.”

With a prior £20 million loan from MSD Holdings in December, West Brom is accumulating more debt, creating a situation where future owners inherit financial burdens. While retaining key players in January seems favorable in the short term, the reality is that funds will eventually need to be sourced.

The potential new investors, if they proceed with their expressed interest, will likely contribute funds to the club. However, if they have to repay substantial amounts borrowed prior to the takeover, it implies reduced investment in the playing squad.

Lai’s firm stance on not injecting more funds means the squad faces depletion rather than reinforcement in the upcoming transfer windows. The club seems to be banking heavily on the prospect of promotion this season under Carlos Corberan.

The risk of potential buyers being deterred by these financial developments adds another layer of concern. West Brom appears to be consolidating efforts for promotion, but the uncertain financial landscape poses challenges that may impact the squad’s strength and stability.
