Kylian Mbappe undeniably exhibits exceptional football skills; there’s no disputing that fact. However, to ascend to the ranks of greatness, one must demonstrate both on-field prowess and off-field demeanor.
Unfortunately, Kylian Mbappe falls short in the latter aspect, as evidenced by his post-match comments after Tuesday night’s game. In an interview with Canal Plus Foot following PSG’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle, Mbappe’s remarks were notably lacking in grace.
His demeanor seemed particularly sour after a humbling 4-1 defeat at St James’ Park, where Kieran Trippier effectively contained him for much of the first half. Forced to relocate inside due to Trippier’s adept one-on-one defense and the collective efforts of the Newcastle team, Mbappe found himself consistently frustrated. Even in the face of a fatigued Newcastle side with limited substitution options, Mbappe struggled to bypass Nick Pope, often missing the target when better outcomes were within reach.
“It’s frustrating because we dominated from beginning to end.”
“They don’t have anything [Newcastle United].”
“We understood having nothing was their game.
“We needed to improve our move completion.
“In games like these, we need to work more in front of goal.
“We must exterminate them.”
Moreover, Mbappe’s treatment of PSG is nothing short of shocking, revealing a lack of loyalty. His transparent efforts to manipulate the situation, leaving PSG without a transfer fee and securing a substantial deal with Real Madrid, further illustrate his questionable character. This disregard for the club that nurtured his talent reflects poorly on Mbappe as an individual.
In contrast, acknowledging the opponent’s defensive strengths, crediting them for a well-defended match, and admitting to fortunate decisions are traits that distinguish true sportsmanship. It remains puzzling why some players and managers, including Mbappe, refrain from acknowledging when luck plays in their favor, as if admitting it could jeopardize the result.
