The 42-year-old encountered the accident during the four-day challenge, sustaining grazes as well. McCaw’s wife, Gemma, shared on Instagram about tending to his wounds after the fall and speculated about a possible broken rib.

Fortunately, the injuries were not severe, and the former All Blacks skipper managed to complete the race. McCaw expressed his satisfaction on social media after finishing the 5 Passes bike tour, covering 618km and 5800m of climbing over four days. Despite the challenges in the A grade, he celebrated his teammate Luke McPherson claiming the yellow jersey and Nathan Cohen securing the sprinters jersey.
