A Formula One movie, directed by Lewis Hamilton and featuring Brad Pitt, is said to have discarded a significant portion of its footage, despite a reported expenditure of £14 million. The unnamed film, marked by uncertainties, had ambitious goals, with Hamilton expressing his desire for it to surpass the impact of Netflix’s Drive To Survive. However, alleged changes in sponsorship compelled the producers to abandon the original footage and undertake a complete reshoot.
Reports indicate that the production company invested over £14 million in creating a replica F1 grid with identical cars to those in the 2023 season. Nevertheless, the footage is now slated for reshooting, and the reasons for discarding the initial scenes have not been disclosed.
A junior executive associated with the film revealed, “The sponsorships have all changed, and we can no longer use a large amount of the scenes we have shot.” Brad Pitt, set to star in the film, faced challenges with cast gaps and an inadequate script, according to reports. Filming took place at Silverstone during the Great British Grand Prix in July, where Pitt was spotted in costume, expressing his enjoyment of the experience.
Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time World Championship winner, was slated to direct the film, aiming to surpass the impact of Netflix’s popular F1 documentary series. However, the film’s production faced setbacks, leading to the decision to reshoot a substantial portion of the footage.
