Charlton Athletic set sights on swoop for League Two ace
Charlton Athletic has expressed interest in Newport County midfielder Shane McLoughlin, as reported by Football Insider. The League Two player, who joined Newport just this summer, may be the subject of attention from Charlton Athletic during the upcoming January transfer window. The Addicks, alongside League One side Wycombe Wanderers, are reportedly considering a move for the 26-year-old.
Charlton Athletic, under the management of Michael Appleton, is gearing up for the upcoming transfer window, aiming to make strategic signings that will contribute to their push for a playoff spot in the second half of the season. McLoughlin, who signed a two-year deal with Newport in July, has swiftly become a crucial player for the Exiles, featuring in 25 appearances across all competitions this season. Under the guidance of Graham Coughlan, he has contributed five goals and three assists. The former Republic of Ireland youth international, born in the United States, commenced his senior career at Ipswich Town in England, making two first-team appearances before departing permanently from Portman Road. McLoughlin has had stints with clubs like AFC Wimbledon and Morecambe in the third tier before dropping down a league to join Salford City last year.
Now, with interest from Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers, McLoughlin could be on the move again, potentially providing a valuable addition to the squads eyeing his services.
