Browns Star Denzel Ward Sends Message on Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence
The Jacksonville Jaguars received positive injury updates regarding quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Thursday, and the Cleveland Browns are gearing up to face the former top pick. Initially, it seemed unlikely that Lawrence would play against the Browns following a high-ankle sprain on Monday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite leaving the stadium in a walking boot, Lawrence returned to the field on Thursday.
Expressing gratitude that the injury wasn’t more severe, Lawrence stated, “If I can be out there and be myself for the most part, then I’m going to be out there.”
Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward, acknowledging Lawrence’s skills, emphasized the need for preparation, saying, “I think we’re preparing for him to play. He’s a great quarterback, great for that team, and their entire team brings a challenge to us, and we just got to be ready to face that.”
Ward highlighted Lawrence’s abilities, noting his strong arm, progression through plays, and overall high-caliber quarterback status. Lawrence’s impressive season statistics include a career-best 67.9% completion rate, 3,004 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Despite missing the last two games due to a shoulder injury, Ward is expected to return for the Browns. Reflecting on his absence, Ward acknowledged the challenges but expressed excitement about being back with the team.
Ward, known for his playmaking as a cornerback, does not intend to alter his style despite injury concerns. He emphasized his commitment to the game, stating, “I love playing this game. Injuries are going to happen… it’s definitely not going to affect the way I play the game.”
If Ward returns, he will be tasked with covering Jaguars receiver Calvin Ridley, who has been a significant threat this season. Despite Ridley’s skills, Ward asserted the Browns are up for the challenge.
As the Browns are a 3-point home favorite against the Jaguars, Ward remains confident in his playing style and looks forward to contributing to the team’s success.
